Announcing Aquinas Center 2015 Essay Contest Calling all College/University Juniors and Seniors!

The Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal at Ave Maria University is pleased to announce its first essay contest. In honor of Pope Francis’ declaration of an extraordinary jubilee Year of Mercy beginning on December 8, 2015, essays are to be on the theme of mercy, and should use one or both of the quotations below as a point of departure.

Mercy is the compassion in our hearts for another person’s misery, a compassion which drives us to do what we can to help the person.

-St. Thomas Aquinas

God acts mercifully, not indeed by going against His justice, but by doing something more than justice.

-St. Thomas Aquinas

Juniors and seniors may submit an original 1000-word essay on the topic of mercy. Submissions are due by December 1, 2015. Essays will be judged by AMU faculty on style, content, argumentative coherence, and organization.

The first place essay will be awarded $500 and be posted online.

Honorable mentions will receive $100.
